About
Devolver was founded in 2015 by guitarist Devin Babcock, who initially embarked on the project as a solo venture. After moving to focus on the music, Devin enlisted the help of drummer and producer Bevin Booth. Together, they crafted Devolver's debut album, together handling all the guitars, bass, drums, and synth work, while Bevin took charge of production, mixing, and mastering. Released in April 2016, the self-titled album showcased a rotating lineup of vocalists, including notable voices from After The Burial and Arrival Of Autumn. This period also saw the arrival of bassist Shaun Streeper and guitarist Jayde Penner, solidifying the band's lineup.
As Devolver began performing live to promote their music, the release of single "A Life Lost," in 2017 marked a new chapter, with Chris Brown joining as the band's full-time vocalist. In 2019, bassist Jaylen Elias came on board, and the focus shifted to their next album. Despite production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Devolver to release the single "Unscathed" in July 2020, staying active during challenging times.
As restrictions eased in 2021, Devolver began performing live again and set their sights on creating the best album they possibly could. After enlisting the services of renowned producer Mark Lewis (Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder, Devildriver, Whitechapel), the work began in earnest in July 2022, with sessions in both their local studio and Mark Lewis' Nashville studio.
Shaking off the frost in spring 2023, Devolver now had a new album in tow. The culminated efforts of the 5 members truly eclipsing the sum of its parts, this was by far their most ambitious and defining piece of work. Releasing their first single from the forthcoming album "Jewels of the Maw" to align with their embarking on a tour of Western Canada, the band began to lay the groundwork with a slow but steady marketing campaign, releasing more singles like breadcrumbs along the way. Pieces coming together one by one, in their own time, they shaped the trajectory of their release with an orchestrated intentionality
Looking ahead, on the precipice of another winter, Devolver has poised itself for all the pieces to fall into place in early 2025, with ambitious plans to support their strongest material to date into the foreseeable future.
